District Scouting History

We are setting out to provide a history of scouting in the Lichfield District and we need your help. Target publication date is to be in time for the 2007 Centenary.

What we need is for you to let us know about when your Group started, and any interesting archive material that you might have, and any scout in the past who has received a galantry award, or other honour award from your Scout Troop and email us at Scouts@ldb.co.uk.

We needs your help, and intend to produce a book by the end of next year if possible.

The scout in the background, is not from our own District, but was taken and represents the uniform in 1936, and comes from a scout troop in Perry Barr Birmingham, for all you purists who need to know.

You will see that he is wearing a gallantry medal of the time, which he received for rescuing a boy who could not swim, and who had fallen into the river tame, which was in flood at the time. He jumped into the river, pulled him out, and gave him artificial respiration, saving his life.

Now this is all good stuff, but what we want is your stories, about our District so get looking in the cupboards and dust off all those old records and get cracking. Talk to some of those old timers who might remember, and do it now and let us know.
