An Invitation to help bring to reality, the vision of a Church at the heart of the City in the 21st century
Progress
The front entrance above will lead through the Porch into the new and extended Sanctuary with the stage at the front built back into the present car park. To the right we will find a new vestry with a toilet facility, and the door on the front left will lead through, when stage three is completed, into new school rooms and narthex for a Sunday morning meeting area. These rooms will also be used on week-days for meetings by church members and for outside interests.
Wade Street is a city centre church and should remain so. The partial redevelopment of the site will maintain a link to the past, and a bridge to the future. The proposed on-site development will incorporate all the requirements needed, is the most cost-effective option, and does not require the church to move off site while developing the new buildings. Church activity can continue uninterrupted.
- Planning has been approved
- The costing has been agreed for the development
- Work will start - Autumn 2003 and phase one complete by November, 2004
- Money is still needed now
Additional space and facilities are required to accommodate the needs of an expanding congregation and the local community. The development will provide more scope to reach out into the local community ensuring a more regular presence on the church site and greater opportunities for offering information and advice to those with a link with the church and to the wider public.
Improved facilities will include:-
- Improved disabled access
- Increased and improved seating in the church
- Meeting rooms for church groups, children, teenagers, the retired, and for study
- availability for use by external user groups for arts, community, and voluntary bodies
- Improved catering and toilet facilities
- Showers and changing rooms for baptism and for activity groups
- Office and reprographic facilities
- Counselling rooms
- Additional staff for outreach, youth work and general administration
Finance:-
The total cost of the development is expected to be in the region of
£550,000. To date (Jan 2004), approximately £180,000 has been raised by
the church members plus a loan against Church House which we own, next door to the church, of about £100,000. So we are now in a position to start Phase I of the project, the extension to the rear of the Church, the work to the kitchen, and the remaining fabric structure. Phase II will be the internal and finishing works to the toilets and meeting rooms at the rear of the present Hall, and Phase III - the Narthex and first floor rooms above - over the present Car Park.
Donations to the fund can be made by cheque, made payable to 'Wade Street
Church' and sent to our treasurer, David Lodge at 22 Station Road,
Barton-Under Needwood, Staffordshire, DE13 8DR. Receipts will be issued
where required. Better still, come and have a look at the site, plans and
development so far and meet with the Minister or one of the team. Please
contact ............to arrange a visit or come to one of our regular Sunday
services to see what goes on.
If you are a UK taxpayer, we can increase your donation through recovery of
Income Tax. Please request a Gift Aid Form or visit our website to print off
the form and then send this with your donation."
