Citizens Advice Bureau
The CAB Service

Citizens Advice Bureaux

Citizens Advice Bureaux, which have been set up throughout the country, help people to solve their problems.

Each Bureau is independent, but all are supported by Citizens Advice nationally in the provision of information, though not financially. This provides training, information and a computer link. It checks that each local bureau is giving good service to its local community.

Citizens Advice and all the local bureaux are charities. Volunteers and donations are vital to their work and continued existence.

Your local bureau

Lichfield CAB has been serving local residents since 1969 and answers thousands of enquiries and clients in various venues. It works closely with other local organisations and projects.

The problems people have

CAB staff have experience in helping people who are facing all kinds of problems such as:- We can offer advice and practical support, for example - we can help fill in forms, or negotiate for you.

People who seek advice

Anyone is welcome to seek advice, regardless of race, sex, disability, sexuality or nationality. In case of serious need, it may sometimes be possible to make a home visit.

Helping to shape policy

Because we see so many clients, we get to know what people are having problems with, so as well as giving advice, we campaign to try to get things changed for the better for everyone - even those who never use the CAB.

The CAB service works with local councils and the government. It influences policymakers so that legislation can be fairer. The service is not connected with any political party.

The CAB staff

Some of the staff are paid workers and some are volunteers. All are fully trained and keep up to date with all the latest regulations.

The cost

All advice is free. The costs are born by the CAB, which receives funds from the local councils and from local donors.
